With SEIFEN, IN BLÜTE, Leipzig-based artist Maja Behrmann presents a solo exhibition at G2 Schaulager. Bringing together sculpture, painting, textiles and works on paper, she creates a site-specific spatial composition that engages with and articulates the architecture, opening up multiple perspectives on her practice.
At the core of Behrmann’s work is a poetic, research-driven practice that explores the manifold relationships between form and colour, both in planar and spatial configurations. She develops her works from an ever-expanding archive of forms that continually generates new constellations. Through an ongoing process of shifting, repeating, fragmenting and recombining this repertoire, she creates compositions that oscillate between order and openness.
The spatial staging of her work is central to this practice. It shapes the perception of individual works while also amplifying their presence as they enter into dialogue with one another and with their viewers. In more recent bodies of work, Behrmann has also incorporated mechanical movement, further extending the spatial experience. The result is an open constellation of material, form, colour and space that continually reconfigures itself through the act of perception.
